What do you get when you pair wine and cheese? Ice cream of course. Only in San Francisco at Humphry Slocombe ice creamery.
Apparently, this special edition ice cream collaboration was born at the Fancy Food Show.
A cheesemaker, winery, and ice creamery–all famous in their own right–decided that the natural next step in their relationship would be an ice cream flavor to marry all three together.
You know it’s serious when the ice cream flavor gets its own launch party (…and at a French chateau).
Disclosure: I attended this engagement party of sorts to wish the threesome well.
#1 The Big Cheese: Laura Chenel Chevre
Everyone in the San Francisco Bay Area knows her. Laura Chenel began the American goat cheese revolution in the 1970s when she started making cheese with a few goats in her yard in Sebastapol, CA.
What started as a one woman operation swelled into a 1300 employee cheesemaking operation over 4 decades.
Their signature and bestselling item is still the fresh chevre. This fresh goat cheese is mildly tangy, uber creamy, and will spread on just about anything your mind to.
#2 The Fine Wine: Domaine Carneros
It seems like everyone who goes to Napa stops at this winery modeled after an 18th century chateau in France.
They specialize in methóde traditionnelle sparkling wine with grapes from the Carneros AVA.
Their hand picked winemaker, Eileen Crane, previously of Domaine Chandon and Gloria Ferrer sparkling wines, thought they should start making pinot noir too in addition to the pinot noir used in the sparkling wine.
#3 The Ice Cream: Humphry Slocombe
This ice creamery has been scooping quirky, inventive frozen flavors in San Francisco since its inception in 2008.
It’s not often you can find ice cream made from cheese. This one is just a little savory from the goat cheese but spiraled with the pinot sorbet so it’s not too fattening either.
This Wine & Cheese flavor just might make the perpetually long lines running out of the shop just a little longer.
Limited Edition for November 2019
Like many special edition flavors at Humphry Slocombe, this one is limited and only available at Domaine Carneros and Humphry Slocombe locations in San Francisco.
They will scoop through November 2019.
After that, you’ll have to go back to wine and cheese pairing the old fashioned way.
